Preparation

Please review the instructions listed below. If for some reason you are unable to follow all the pre-test instructions, note the instruction(s) you were unable to follow to ensure that you follow the same procedure for follow up testing to maintain consistency.
  • Do not schedule a test if you have any lung or pulmonary disorders, including the common cold or influenza.
  • Avoid vigorous activity for 8 to 12 hours prior to testing
  • Avoid caffine and other non-essential stimulants (pop, candy, chocolate) for 8 to 12 hours.
  • Fast for at least 4 hours before the test. Drink plenty of water to ensure you are well hydrated.
  • Swim attire should be preferably two piece for the female or nylon swim suits designed for competition that are small, and light, and therefore reduce the possibility of air traps. Swim caps trap air and are therefore inappropriate. Long hair should be cleansed of oil and tied back with a nonmetallic hair tie.
  • Subjects should report for the test free of any jewelry (including earrings, bracelets, rings, etc.)
  • Try to avoid gaseous foods at least two days prior to test date.
  • All participants should urinate and expel any gas or feces from the bowels prior to testing.
  • Practice expelling all your air and holding your breath. This will make your testing much easier.

Cancellations
If you choose to cancel for any reason, you must call the facility where testing is being held within 12 hours of your test, to receive a full refund.

Tardiness
You must be on time for your scheduled test. If you show up late for your scheduled test time, you will have to wait until the next available time slot. No exceptions. Expect total test time to be approximately 15-20 minutes.

Risk and Discomfort
You may experience some discomfort during the underwater weighing, especially after you expire all the air from your lungs. However, this discomfort is only momentary, lasting only 3 to 5 seconds.

Inquires
Questions about the procedures used in the physical fitness test are encouraged. If you have any questions or need additional information, please ask us to explain further.

Freedom of Consent
Your permission to perform this physical fitness test is strictly voluntary. You are free to stop the test at any point if you so desire.
