Hydrostatic Weighing Procedure

Metabolism is the sum total of all the body’s energy requirements to keep it running and to fuel daily activities. Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is the number of calories the body burns at rest and can account for up to 80% of the calories burned each day. It is important to recognize that for genetic reasons, each body is unique, especially on a metabolic level. By measuring and monitoring changes in metabolism, adjustments can be made to diet and exercise based on the body’s changing needs.

Briefly, testing involves the participant to be seated in a comfortable position for approximately 10 minutes. After applying a nose clip to close the nostrils the subject will insert the oxygen analyzers entire mouthpiece into their mouth using their lips to form a seal around the mouthpiece to prevent air leaks. The subject will breath normally into the mouth piece for 5-10 minutes while their RMR is measured.
